The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released the final standards for three quantum-resistant cryptographic algorithms: ML-KEM, ML-DSA, and SLH-DSA.
Blockchain researchers noted that while practical quantum threats to elliptic curve cryptography remain years away, these finalized standards allow Layer 1 networks to test and implement hybrid post-quantum signature schemes on testnets.
